Dr Riches has many years of experience working in NHS services, academic and research institutions, and mental health settings. He gained his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London, with a specialism in cognitive behavioural therapeutic approaches, and has undertaken further training in various therapies. He has a PhD in philosophy from University College London, and gained an MSc in psychology at the University of East London and a BA and MA in philosophy at the University of Southampton. He is a therapist and supervisor for a range of psychological interventions. His research interests are in digital mental health, in particular the use of virtual reality and immersive technologies for psychological therapies and staff training. He has published many scientific papers on these topics in academic journals; and given oral presentations, keynote lectures, and training to numerous international conferences.
